Kay Alton, LICSW

“Currently Accepting New Clients

I am a licensed therapist in Oregon and Washington, offering individual, couples, and family therapy both in person in White Salmon, WA and virtually. I am actively looking for an office in Hood River, OR — coming soon.

I currently accept a limited number of Community Health Plan of Washington clients at the Community Roots Wellness Hub in White Salmon and OHP Open Card for virtual sessions. I can provide a Superbill for out-of-network insurance reimbursement.

Individual Therapy

I work with adults and children/teens who are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or impacted by past experiences that still show up in their day-to-day lives. My approach is compassionate, down-to-earth, and focused on helping you better understand yourself and what you need to feel more steady and connected.

A big part of my work includes EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a therapy that helps the brain process difficult or traumatic experiences so they no longer feel as intense or disruptive. I offer extended EMDR sessions (90 minutes), often every other week, for people who want more focused and in-depth work. I also provide EMDR therapy for children, when it’s a good fit.

As both a licensed therapist and someone with lived experience of postpartum depression, I bring deep care and understanding to my work. My goal is to help clients build clarity, resilience, and a stronger sense of self so they can show up more fully in their lives.

Couples Therapy

I work with couples who want to feel more connected, understood, and secure with one another through a Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT). Rather than only talking about what’s going wrong, I help couples practice real conversations during sessions, so new ways of relating can actually take root.

My work with couples is active and supportive. Together, we slow things down, look at what’s happening beneath the surface, and build practical tools for communication and repair. Many couples begin to notice meaningful changes in just a few months of working together.

Family Therapy

Families often come to therapy feeling disconnected, stuck in conflict, or unsure how to move forward together. My role is to help each person feel heard and understood, while also supporting the family as a whole.

I often begin by meeting individually with family members, then bring the family together to work toward greater understanding, trust, and connection. I believe families already have strengths — therapy helps uncover and bolster them so relationships can feel safer and more supportive.
